As another year ends, and a new calendar year begins - it is symbolically a good time to re evaluate our lives so that we can have a good time in 2019. I will write about many things (hopefully) in this space where earlier I used to write god knows what. But initially I want to write about the damnedest thing ever - self improvement. It is not a solution to anything important - like climate change and peak oil - but it is a solution to more immediate problems that we face daily.
Firstly, finances. We need to cut down useless expenditure and spend our limited cash more wisely. Lest you think I am blaming you - I too have been at fault on numerous occasions during 2018. This will tie into other things that I will point out below. To ensure financial wisdom, both of us (again) need to sit down on the 1st of January, 2019 and draw out basic operating principles, short term and long term goals and the monthly budget. We need to classify expenditures on a priority basis. This would serve us well. We tried to do this earlier, but due to the tumultuous nature of this year and unforeseen events, which, needless to add, may happen again, we could not implement our plans. I hope we will do better this year. Nay, I know we will do better this year.
Secondly, physical health. You are especially lagging on this point. No doubt you would say that due to your new job and increased commuting, you find it hard to go to the gym regularly. We need to work this out, because something has to be done. As an aside, I have decided that let all hell break loose, but I will go on a strict diet, and cut out alcohol and other intoxicants out of my life. I can only hope that you will follow suit. I am turning 30, and in my mind I had decided to phase out alcohol, which I admittedly like to partake, by this stage. I think I shall. By the way, you promised to cut out the smoking, didn't you?
Thirdly, emotional health. I think we need to communicate even more than we already do. I am especially guilty of not holding quality communication with you. I will try to be better at this and we shall explore ways in which we can make me better. We need to have even more alone time together, yes? And maybe, we could think of other ways to reach out - maybe through this space on the inter-webs? That way we could leave our messages for posterity. Or till there is still some fossil energy left to power the internet, I suppose. Just a thought.
A postscript to this tentative feeler of a post. All of us get this brief chance to live on this small planet on the edge of a small galaxy, hurtling through cold space, and we are going to be together for the rest of our time here. Thereafter, our bodies will disintegrate, and one day get consumed by the sun. The atoms that hold us in this incarnation will never assemble in this particular configuration ever again. So - more smiles and less stress, I guess? Nothing is a big deal, babes.
